RIO DE JANEIRO - Parque Lage

Located near Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas at the base of Corcovado, Parque Lage is one of Rio's most cherished green spaces. English landscape architect John Tyndall laid out the gardens in the mid-19th century, and the mansion, designed in the electric style by Italian architect Mario Vodret, was finished in 1933. The building was commissioned by the industrialist Henrique Lage and his wife, Italian opera singer Gabriella Besanzoni. It's now home to the Escola de Artes Visuais (EAV), and the student's work is often exhibited, but locals come for the elegant surroundings of the café, where they sip cafezinhos and enjoy brunch by the reflecting pool.
